TOPA Properties, LLC, formerly known as TOPA Equities, (VI), Ltd. was founded in 1980 by John E. Anderson, Sr., former Chairman of Los Angeles-based parent company, TOPA Equities, Ltd., one of the largest private companies in the United States with more than 40 wholly owned subsidiaries with interests in agriculture, automotive dealerships, insurance, real estate and beverage distribution.
John E. Anderson, Sr. was a successful businessman, lawyer, and longtime member of the Forbes 400. He was a principal benefactor and namesake of the prestigious Anderson School of Management at UCLA. Through a series of acquisitions of beverage and duty-free wholesaling operations, Mr. Anderson built a sizable portfolio of real property holdings in the Virgin Islands between 1980 and 1983. These acquisitions became the basis for establishing TOPA Equities, LLC as the holding and management company for the real estate portfolio.
TOPA Properties, LLC continued to acquire commercial retail properties in the Virgin Islands after 1983 with several more acquisitions in downtown Charlotte Amalie and Havensight in St. Thomas and in Christiansted, St. Croix. In 2001, TOPA purchased its first St. John property, the prestigious Mongoose Junction II building located in Cruz Bay. The most recent acquisition took place in late 2003 with the purchase of Historic Bakery Square in Charlotte Amalie, a cluster of old Danish buildings surrounding a central courtyard that dates back to the early 1800's.
Today TOPA is widely considered the preeminent commercial landlord in the Virgin Islands. TOPA has attained this rank by providing the most enthusiastic and responsive service to its tenants and treating them as partners. TOPA's properties stand out as some of the most attractive and well maintained in the Virgin Islands and its property locations are in the center of the islands' bustling tourist and financial districts.
In addition to its real estate holdings, parent company TOPA Equities, Ltd. also owns the Virgin Islands leading beverage distributorships (Bellows International, West Indies Corporation and Caribbean Cellars), and insurance companies (Dorchester and TOPA Insurance Services).
